The first meeting held for the purpose of organizing this church was on May 2, 1843, in the First Methodist church.  The organization was consummated the same evening, with a small membership.  In 1845 the church edifice was erected on the corner of East Onondaga and Jefferson streets, and it has since been enlarged.
