An update of persons buried at Amber Cemetery, Otisco, NY, compiled from tombstone readings taken during autumn 1998 by Fran Mosconi.

The update submitted in August 1998 represents all readable stones from the east side as well as a few from the west side of this cemetery; the following represents the remaining stones from the west side which had not been listed in August.  The censusing of Amber Cemetery is complete.  I may collate the alphabetization of the entire cemetery in the future.  For now, you may want to consult both parts of the listing, in searching for your ancestor.  Several families do have loved ones buried on each side of the cemetery.

Surnames are listed alphabetically; individuals are not necessarily alphabetical within families, in order to maintain clarity of tombstones’ notes as to marriage, parenthood and the like.  Individuals of the same surname are often but not always buried near one another.  Maiden names, or persons of differing surnames obviously buried with one another, are cross-referenced when possible.  Unless illegibility is specifically noted, a notation such as 19__ or____ means the date has not been completely engraved; the person may be living, or buried elsewhere, or completing the engraving when the person died simply was forgotten.

The cemetery is located on Otisco Valley Road near the junction with Rte. 174, at the northern end of Otisco Lake, on land well above the lake itself.  Graves are located on both sides of the road, with the older sites being located generally on the east side, away from the lake.  So far, this update represents all readable stones from the east side as well as a few from the west side.
