OUR LADY OF PEACE CEMETERY

8668 Oswego Road (Rt. 57), Liverpool, Town of Clay, New York

Submitted by Kathy Crowell

On Sunday, June 14, 1998, Our Lady of Peace cemetery was blessed by Bishop James M. Moynihan.  The cemetery is the 13th regional cemetery overseen by the diocese and includes 107 acres for 85,000 burial places and cemetery buildings, according to A June 15 article by Melanie Gleaves-Hirsch in "The Post Standard."  A 16-foot "bronze cross on a slab of black granite, draped in a white shroud that is a metaphor for hope and rebirth" and a "life-size Pieta, a sculpture of Mary, the mother of Jesus, grieving over his body after his crucifixion" are located at the cemetery's entrance.  Six bodies await burial, among them Ronald Hill.  The first burial occurs today.
